CRI/Shell low temperature DeNOX system successfully started-up at YARA Porsgrunn in Norway
The Shell low temperature SCR NOX removal technology designed and supplied by CRI Environmental Catalysts & Systems was selected by YARA to be installed on their nitric acid plant in Porsgrunn Norway, which is the largest nitric acid plant in the world. After the very successful start-up and operation of CRI SCR systems in their nitric acid plants in Sluiskil The Netherlands, YARA again decided for the CRI/Shell technology to help mitigate the NOX emissions at Porsgrun and at the same time to de-bottleneck the plant to achieve some 7 to 10% increase in acid production.
The CRI system as installed on this nitric acid plant is designed to reduce NOX emissions by 90%. After start-up, over 90% NOX reduction with less than 2 ppm NH3 slip was achieved. The significant increase in plant acid capacity, achieved in part from the low pressure drop of the CRI SCR system, means that the capital investment can be paid-back in a matter of months.
CRI Environmental Catalysts & Systems has become the leading supplier of NOx abatement technology to the nitric acid (fertilizer) industry, for which the CRI SCR technology is ideally suited.
