Shell EO/EG Omega Support
Shell’s latest development is the “Only MEG Advanced” OMEGA Process. The OMEGA Process combines all the best features of
the Shell MASTER Process with the addition of a catalyzed hydration
reaction for MEG. The OMEGA process has been thoroughly tested
in a commercial demonstration unit and will soon be implemented
in at least two commercial EO/EG units.
Because the reaction of MEG is catalyzed, the OMEGA Process uses much less water, while producing a much higher yield
to MEG. Virtually no DEG or TEG by-products are made in the
OMEGA Process, eliminating the need for costly equipment.
Here are just some of the advantages of the OMEGA process:
- Reduced capital cost
- Combined with HS EO catalyst, the overall highest yield
from ethylene to MEG commercially available
- No DEG/TEG purification, storage or handling
- Lower utility/waste water treatment costs
- Smaller plot area
